learn from the Pomo tule boat makers

with modern communication technologies, reconnecting with folks is easy as clicking a button, friendly click, sending emails, text or via fb. reconnected with Alexis Canillo, a friend, who is Pomo-Bisayan, who is readyto paddle in the Pomo-Filipino canoe. What an honor! recently another friend shared a link about Pomo tule boats, original indigenous seafaring tule boats. when i ask people in the island of bohol about traditional canoe building, the common response is that it isn’t done anymore. when i asked why? the responses included: no more big trees in bohol, canoes are currently built with plywood and lumber from the lumberyard, the younger ones are not following the traditional ways. but i hope to learn more so that the traditional boat building will not be lost. let us learn, plant more trees, take care of the trees, grow like our kapatids, the Pomos.
