Bugsay Bugsay

Sharing a Bugsay Bugsay song and dance I learned from Sunnie Noel, Professor, Artist, Choreographer, Member of Sining Kambayoka Philippines and so much more, during my last visit in the Island of Bohol in November 2016.

Sir Sunnie demonstrates a Bisayan Bugsay song – see lyrics below (loosely translated in English) ~ there is a deeper metaphorical context that was explained to me but this was the gist of it:

bugsay ~ (noun and verb) paddle

kiling kiling ~ as the bangka keels on one side to another, this is the action to keep one’s balance while inside a bangka

dyutay ~ a little bit

baroto ~ bangka (canoe) in bisayan

gamay ~ small
