Dear Partner:
We have included Bangka Journey as one of the donors in the April 15, 2014 Rehabilitation Efforts of the “Alayon Kaliwat Bol-anon”. The component was the distribution of farm implements to help the livelihood of the earthquake evacuees from Brgy. Riverside, Inabanga who were displaced during and after the earthquake, and presently still in tents temporarily residing in Brgy. Maria Rosario boundary Brgy. Cambituon, Inabanga. The actual donors of that April 15, 2014 are the Bangka Journey, the Redemptorist Fathers and the Japan for Bohol Network. We were able to collect a total of 100,000 to purchase 2 heads of carabaos, a number of sundang, bungay, daro, piko, sarol, lagaraw and assorted sizes of nails to help in their temporary shelters.
Situation:
Right after the earthquake, majority of the residents of Brgy. Riverside, Inabanga evacuated in Brgy. Maria Rosario. Their houses were totally destroyed. Eventually, and after every aftershocks, the ground moved and several landslides happened until the local government units of Brgy. Riverside and Inabanga advised ALL residents of Brgy. Riverside to move out. A total of 159 households moved out and settled in the sitios which are part of Brgy. Maria Rosario and Brgy. Cambituon, leaving Brgy. Riverside a no man’s land.
Huge cracks, landslides and every now and then “moving of the ground” wrought fear among the residents to go back. Carabaos, cows, pigs are now trapped in the cracks some already dead, their homes and farms now abandoned.
In their “tent communities” they tried to survive through joining others’ farms as tenants and/or employing themselves to construction jobs as pandays and mostly laborers. Their farm implements (ans some cooking materials) were left behind in their farms now under landslides and landslide threats.
A relocation site (to be build Brgy. Riverside again) is said to be along the way, but this is still a promise. They are still in their tent houses waiting for help/assistance.
Project “Alayon Kaliwat Bol-anon” with the help of Bangka Journey, the Redemptorist Fathers and Japan for Bohol Network decided to focus helping in the livelihood component (farm tools and implements) for the farmers to help themselves through farming and carpentry.
We have attached in this report some pictures, showing the nearest landslide areas which covered their farmlands, their present situation in tents in Brgy. Maria Rosario and Brgy. Cambituon, and the distribution of the farm tools/implements on April 15, 2014.
Yours in service,
Maria Ira Pamat
